SeaBag

Privacy Policy

Effective: May 2026  ·  Last updated: June 2026 (updated Android age signals details)

Overview

SeaBag is an offline-first mobile app for U.S. Navy service members. It lets you search and read NAVADMINs and ALNAVs, look up MILPERSMAN articles, research Navy COOL and SRB references, run fitness, pay, and advancement calculators, and track eval-period accomplishments with the Brag Sheet feature.

We do not sell your data or use advertising/analytics SDKs. SeaBag requires no account, no login, and no registration for core features. Most data stays on your device unless you optionally submit feedback or use Google Drive export, both described below.

Data stored on your device

The following information is stored locally using device preferences and SQLite. It never leaves your device.

  • Rate and status — the Navy rate/designator and duty status you select in the app. Used only to personalize the display.
  • Synced reference data — NAVADMINs, ALNAVs, MILPERSMAN articles, SRB entries, and related reference data are downloaded from our API and cached locally so the app works offline. No reading activity or search history is transmitted back.
  • Navy COOL and uniform reference data — bundled or cached for app use so common references remain available without a live website.
  • Calculator results — PFA, BCA, FMS, pay, and readiness values you enter are saved locally for your own reference only when the app feature needs to remember them.
  • Brag Sheet entries — eval period names, dates, and accomplishment entries you record are stored locally in a SQLite database on your device. They are never transmitted to SeaBag servers.
  • Bookmarks — messages, articles, and credentials you bookmark are stored locally on your device.
  • App preferences — settings such as the selected rate and altitude toggle are stored locally.

Network requests

SeaBag makes outbound network requests to api.seabag.app, a server we operate, to sync reference data such as NAVADMINs, ALNAVs, MILPERSMAN articles, SRB data, and naval history entries. These sync requests contain no personally identifiable information — only standard HTTPS requests for reference data.

We do not use this connection for analytics, advertising, or profiling. Server logs may contain normal operational request metadata such as IP address, timestamp, path, status code, and user agent for security, troubleshooting, and reliability, but SeaBag does not connect that data to an account because the app has no accounts.

Android age signals

In certain jurisdictions, Google Play may be legally required to verify a user's age or parental approval status and provide limited age-related signals to app developers. On Android, SeaBag may use Google Play's Play Age Signals API to receive these limited signals where applicable.

SeaBag does not independently verify age, collect government IDs, collect facial age-estimation data, or ask users to submit age-verification documents. Any age verification required by Google Play is handled by Google Play.

SeaBag uses age-related signals only for legal compliance and age-appropriate access decisions. SeaBag does not use this information for advertising, profiling, analytics, or sale to third parties.

Data we do not collect

  • No name, SSN, DoD ID, or other personally identifiable information for core app use
  • No precise or approximate location
  • No device identifiers (IMEI, advertising ID)
  • No usage analytics or crash reporting
  • No advertising SDKs of any kind

Feedback (optional)

The app includes an optional feedback form. If you use it, SeaBag sends:

  • The message you type
  • Your email address, only if you choose to provide one for a reply
  • App version, build number, platform, and a random install ID used to understand duplicate reports or follow-up context

Feedback is used only to fix bugs, respond to requests, and improve the app. Do not include classified information, HIPAA/medical details, SSNs, DoD IDs, or other sensitive personal information in feedback.

Google Drive export (optional)

The Brag Sheet feature includes an optional export to Google Drive. If you use this feature:

  • You will be prompted to sign in with your Google account via Google Sign-In (OAuth 2.0).
  • SeaBag requests only the drive.file scope — permission to create and manage files that the app itself creates. It cannot read or access any other files in your Drive.
  • SeaBag writes two files to a "SeaBag" folder in your Drive: a formatted plain-text brag sheet and a JSON backup of your entries.
  • Your Google account credentials are never stored by SeaBag. The session is authenticated, the files are written, and then SeaBag signs out immediately.
  • No data from your Google account is transmitted to SeaBag servers at any point.

Google's use of information received from SeaBag is governed by the Google Privacy Policy. Google Drive export is entirely optional; all other app features work without it.

Third-party services

SeaBag does not integrate any third-party analytics, advertising, or data-brokering services. External connections are limited to api.seabag.app (which we own and operate), app store links, official/reference links you choose to open, and optionally Google Drive as described above.

The app links out to external websites (Navy COOL, official Navy/DoD pages, app stores, and source documents) when you tap a link. Those sites have their own privacy policies; we have no control over them.

Children's privacy

SeaBag is intended for U.S. Navy service members and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy we will update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after any change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
